Stress Relaxation Techniques

Each day we experience some type of stress. Stress relaxation techniques can lessen the daily pressure that we experience in our lives. Our body when stressed triggers the flight or fight response. This response activates the release of stress hormones that when released continuously, because of chronic stress, it can be detrimental to our health. These hormones cause symptoms that lead to more serious health problems such as: heart disease, illnesses, and other problems.

Everyone relaxes differently. What works for one person may not work for the other. The goal is to find what works for you so you can make it part of your routine of relieving stress. You will need to keep an open mind while trying different techniques. If you start the technique with a preconceived idea you may inhibit the stress relaxation technique from working for you. Remember this is all about you.


Breathing Excersises

Breathing exercises increase the oxygen to your brain and your body.

The oxygen goes through your body from your cells, to your brain, to your organs, this is very healthy. This helps in the prevention of illnesses and healthy circulation.

1. Find a place to lay down a place where you are more likely to be at rest.

2. Place your hand on your stomach, and close your eyes.

3. Take a deep breath , letting it slowly out.

4. Count to 3 then take another breath. Repeat this technique .Do this for 2 to 5 minutes.

If you start to feel dizzy, light headed, or strained discontinue.


Muscle Relaxing Techniques

Often when we are stressed we don't realize that our whole body is tense. This causes unnecessary strain, makes you moody, and you don't know why. This is a simple yet effective stress relaxation techniques.

1. Lay down in a comfortable spot. Don't let your limbs touch anything, it can cause distraction.

2. Start with you head, tense your muscles in your head for 3 seconds then release.

3. Take a deep breath.

4. Continue this all through your body. From your head down to your toes.

This should relax you. It may even put you to sleep.

Stress Relaxation Techniques are a dime a dozen. The trick is find one that works for you.

There are many books out there that contain effective techniques. Another step you can do is take a personal day. Let the day be all about what you like to do. Ask yourself "What do I like to do?" Make a day of it. There is nothing wrong with that.

Some ideas: Go to a favorite place with good scenery, hot bath with salts and oils, pamper yourself, get a massage.,/p>

Do something physical, jog, take a walk, do aerobics, swim, take a dance class.

Engage in social relaxation with friends, play a game, watch a movie, puzzle, spend the day talking to an old friend.

Get creative, journal, paint, sculpt, draw, garden, stimulate your mind, read a good book.

These are just some ideas to get you started. The goal is to DE-stress yourself or let the company of others do it for you. You have to take the time to care for your own wellness. This is a major step in
