Stress And The Immune System

Stress and the immune system is your health really in jeopardy? Do you feel like you have one stressful event after another in your life? Your loved one is in the hospital, your job is so overwhelming and frustrating, I can't get ahead on the household responsibilities, and now I'm sick!

Most of us do not realize that when we allow ourselves to get so stressed out to the greatest degree, our bodies undergo specific changes that impair our immune system. With the amount of stress we are under, our weakened immune response means stress related illnesses, and stress related diseases.

Stress triggers the fight or flight stress response. This response causes natural physiological changes to your body. Remaining in this state for a prolonged period of time can cause the body not to return to a relaxed state. So your body does not send the message that danger is all clear. That relaxed, all clear state is vital.

If the body does not calm down, those physiological changes begin to cause physical changes, including changes to the immune system. Resulting in an impaired immune response.

There is a link between stress and the immune system. When you feel stressed your body uses up its resources' on trying to manage the stress from within the body. At that time the body is also having to perform it's normal functions including fighting off what the body may already have been exposed to.

For example every day we are exposed to harmful viruses, toxins, pollutants, and carcinogens. If our immune system is impaired our body could get infected. And if you get infected and continue to feel the demands of chronic stressyou could remain ill for a longer period of time.

Immune System Boost

When it comes to stress and the immune system we are effected on many levels. After all it is our body we are talking about. One of the levels most people do not consider is how we are effected on a cellular level.

Glutathione is your body's master antioxidant.

Our cells produce this antioxidant naturally. We need it to fight off illnesses and diseases, and for many other functions. If our body has low glutathione levels our immune system will not work at it's optimum level.

As far as immune system is concerned we have to be aware that stress causes oxidative stress in our bodies. This oxidative stress causes cell damage in our bodies impairing not only our immune system but other functions as well. This can be combated by antioxidants that we can take in through diet and supplements. The benefits of antioxidants manage stress and the immune system, as a result a healthier and happier you.

Stress and the immune system may not result in a serious disease for us.

It is quite possible that stress may cause our body to take longer to recover from an illness or infection we all know that this affects our productivity in life. By making smarter choices every day we can reduce the risk of having an impaired immune system. It would be in your best interest to adopt a wellness plan. This can be adapted into a life style.

Remember to exercise regularly, eat antioxidant rich foods, balanced diet, get plenty of rest, take time to effectively manage your stressors. By doing this you will benefit your immune system and your life.
