Is job stress driving you crazy? 62% of Americans say work has a significant impact on their stress levels. (American psychological association survey 2004).

Problems on the job that go unaddressed or unchanged can cause chronic stress. This chronic stress contributes to the development of health problems and health damaging behaviors.

According to medical studies chronic stress is a known link to the following health problems; inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases, heart disease, sclerosis of the liver, chronic muscle pain, digestive problems, autoimmune diseases, high blood pressure, and rashes.

Another concern of job burnout is behavioral issues that develop because of chronic stress. Some of the health damaging behaviors are that are often associated with job stress are; overeating, over drinking, abuse of prescription drugs, other eating disorders, not exercising, and poor diet. Looking at these two lists really impress upon us the importance of confronting and managing the stress issue.

One avenue of relief can come through nutrition. Often enough when you are under stress you reach for quick comfort foods that tend to be high in fat and carbs. Even though it may be difficult try to start eating healthier. Grab a granola bar instead of a doughnut. Simple, smart decisions such as this will help your mood.

The science behind nutritional eating is sound. If you eat foods and take your vitamins those vitamins will absorb into your system and produce more energy for you and a positive mood.
