What Is Internal Stress?

Internal stress is stress that is induced by internal emotions and conclusions. How does it affect my health? Why should I be concerned? Once our body feels unable to cope or control these emotions it results in the feeling of stress.

Have you caught yourself worrying about something that is completely out of your control, or worrying for no absolute reason? Do you feel that at times you talk yourself into having anxiety? Internal stress comes from within yourself, and what you allow your mind to dwell on. There is such a thing as talking yourself into being stressed out.

The main causes of stress that is internal stress are; health problems, divorce, troubled marriage, unemployment, care taking for a loved one, midlife crisis, financial worries, and others. Often in these situations it leaves the individual feeling powerless, and as a result feeling internal stress.

Problem Focused

There are specific personality traits or lines of thinking that bring internal stress upon a person.

1. Problem focused. Do you have the tendency to focus on the problems in any circumstance or conversation? This is a harmful trait to allow to grow inside yourself. Here is where learning to control your outlook is helpful. You can choose what you think about simply by not allowing a thought to be lingered on. You can disregard thoughts just as fast as they enter into your mind. Replace that thought with a pleasant memory and refuse to let the other thought to dominate your thinking at that time. Think around your problems. Don’t see a wall look for the rope that you can pull yourself up with.

2. Self-talk and other self-talk. Do you allow your thoughts to drift to the negative more often than positive? It can be hard to control because we live in a world of skeptics and cynicism. Self talk stems from the reason and logic we establish in our minds. Do you lean toward the negative here? What about with other people? Do you always pick apart what they say to come to a negative conclusion? You need to disregard these types of thoughts. This is hard because it becomes a pattern of thinking but it can be done with effort.

3. Perfectionism. We all have it to a degree. The question is how far do you take it? Does the feeling of not making, doing, or saying something perfect bother you? Do you rehearse how it could have been done better? We have to realize that none of us are perfect, therefore we will make mistakes.Focus on the positive you did each day. Take the day-by-day approach. New day, new opportunity to grow.

Personality traits like these cause low self esteem, mind traps, emotional and mental distress, undue fear, anxiety, and self inflicted anger. Allowing yourself to be governed by these thoughts causes you to feel that internal stress. It can become a focus that will affect your well-being. Once your emotional well-being is effected it can have an impact on your health.
