How does it and what do you do?When you or a person you love has to go through the experience of health problems it causes negative feelings, and thoughts to surface that otherwise were not there. There are a variety of emotions you go through and have to come to cope with. The doctor told me I have this disorder, what am I supposed to do now? I already have so much to deal with, how can I deal with this on top of everything else? What am I supposed to tell everyone? Why does he have to be sick? Could the diagnosis be wrong or is this another problem he has to live with? I can’t do this! Questions and overwhelming concerns are a normal part of this process. Some of the feelings and thoughts you might be having are: *Confusion *Irritability *Frazzled *Pressured *Afraid *Lack of control over life's events *Sleepless *Feeling of being trapped in the situation *Helpless (especially if a loved one is sick) These are all normal thoughts and feelings given the circumstances. At this point the pressure of the circumstances could be getting to you. You may feel so upset that your ability to control yourself is impaired. You may be bottling up emotions or taking it out on other people. This is normal too but it is not healthy behavior. It can result in damaged relationships, bad decisions, and a pattern of behavior that can be hard to correct. Emergency situations can throw your body into the unexpected fight or flight reaction. The stress reaction is a normal coping mechanism in the body.

Take your time, learn patience, and stay positive for your own well being. 2. PREPARE AND BRACE YOURSELF. Being prepared for the next challenge in this situation can be to your benefit. Prepare your mind and heart for additional news that could take a toll on your energy. Serious health issues tend to come with more bad news. If you were ready in advance you might save yourself some grief.You have heard hope for the best expect the worse. We hate to use that expression, but in some instances being prepared can help. 3. KEEP WATCH ON YOUR OUTLOOK. If you feel you are thinking more negatively than positively try to change your outlook. This may seem impossible after all you cannot always change the circumstances of whom ever is sick. If you try to be a positive force in your own life or your loved one you will better be able to cope with health problems and stress. 4. SOCIAL SUPPORT. This can be what saves you from your own problematic thinking. Having people come to visit you or take shifts with you or your loved ones proves to be a great distraction. Have your friends bring things familiar to you or things that remind you of better times. Dwell on the positive times do not use it as something to compare to your current stress. This way they can help to feed your energy level and keep you positive. 5. RECREATION OR BREAKS. Taking time for yourself is vital! This time allows you to regroup, and breath. You cannot think when you are so exhausted and stressed, you will not make rational decisions. Take the time away do something you really enjoy. Unwind. 6. HEALTHY COPING. Eat right and exercise.

will let those endorphins flow. This aids in your positive mood during the stress. All of this more than likely feels like a nightmare to you, right? These feelings and thoughts do not just go away after the health problem has passed. At times you may linger in the past, especially if the health problem has resulted in a tragedy. At these times make sure to communicate your feelings on paper or to a trusted friend. It is important to vent and let these feelings out.
