Glutathione. What Is It?
What is Glutathione? Great question, most people have not heard of it. Let's start with something that is completely mainstream now. ANTIOXIDANTS. Everyone has heard of that. We see antioxidants everywhere.
Antioxidants
are found in our vegetables, fruit, and other whole foods. Companies are now adding certain vitamins that have antioxidant properties to the food they sell such as; chocolate, Fiber One bars, and even 7 up. So we see that what is called antioxidants are everywhere. What do they do for you? Antioxidants fight off what is called Oxidative stress. The technical definition is" an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and your biological system's ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates. The imbalance in the repairing causes damage." This damage is oxidative stress. A easier way to look at it is oxidation causes an apple or banana to brown, or rot. This happens to everything that is alive, yes that means US. It is part of the bigger picture of what makes us age. FYI...Stress speeds up this process. How? Stress causes oxidative stress, and thus speeds up the process of aging. That is just the simple way of putting it. Those antioxidants we were referring to fight the oxidative stress that is occurring all the time in your body. In your body there is needs to be a balance between the antioxidants and the oxidative stress.
What is Glutathione?
We have established that antioxidants are vital in your body. Does the body make its own antioxidant? Yes it does. It is called GLUTATHIONE(Gloo-ta-thigh-own) or (GSH). What is glutathione? It is a tripeptide, or protein made up of three different amino acids, gamma-glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. These amino acids are the "food" so to speak for our cells to produce glutathione. These amino acids or gsh makers are found in our diet. Cysteine, however, is extremely difficult to find in our diet. What happens when your body does not make its own glutathione? Or has a gsh deficiency? Without GSH your body would accumulate toxins, making your liver fail, your cells would die from oxidative stress, and your immune system would cause you to be left vulnerable to the different viruses, bacteria, and so forth. Glutathione is essential to hundreds of functions within your body. Let's break it down to the basics. It is as simple as the phrase " AN IDEA" 1. It is your bod'ys own Master Antioxidant. 2. It is an Immune System Booster and Balancer. 3.It enhances the Detoxification of toxins, pollutants, chemicals, ect. 4. It regenerates mitochondria at the cellular level, giving you the Energy you need. 5. It has an Anti -Aging Effect on your cells. See AN IDEA! GSH has many other helpful functions too. How a vitamin gets absorbed into your body depends on the performance of GSH as well. Let us do a for instance. GSH recycles other antioxidants, or certain vitamins your body needs. This means when you take a Vitamin C, and it does its job of neutralizing a free radical, the protein GSH can recharge it by donating a Hydrogen molecule. In your body millions of free radicals are circulating around. A free radical is an OH molecule. When a water molecule or H-H-O molecule loses a Hydrogen, it becomes a free radical, or O-H molecule. This happens all over our body, then when the one cell loses its Hydrogen it steals it from another cell. This becomes like a domino effect. The many cells stealing Hydrogen from one another. What a mess! This causes damage all over the body. Your friend GSH comes into the picture, and continually regenerates Hydrogen at the cellular level. Put simply, GSH donates the H back to O-H making it H-H-O, or water again! Interesting isn't it? All of this may seem confusing, or much like a science experiment at the moment, but people are growing in knowledge of this antioxidant.

has 86,000 references to glutathione. Click the link to review some of them. This will open up a new window. There was a time when the terms vitamins, and cholesterol were unknown. Remember what we discussed at the beginning of this page? We referenced the word antioxidant. do you remember when that was not a commonly used household term? I do. Research and medical studies are growing fast about your master antioxidant, gsh. It is only a matter of time before it is used as commonly as antioxidant or vitamin. There are effective ways of raising your glutathione, and thus optimizing your health. For a free online consultation click on the link,
